I have spent some time considering this posting and how I was going to reply to it. My quandary was not 'what to say' but 'how to say it' without upsetting somebody. I eventually decided that 'to make an omelette you have to break some eggs' so here goes.

AFAIKR as long as one of the nodes is up and running then you are going to keep the cluster uptime alive. If it was a two node cluster then I would be impressed but if it was a 10+ node cluster then it's what I would expect to see.

A previous employer of mine had an 8 node VAX cluster that was started in August 1990. The last time I spoke to one of the programmers there, in December 1997, it was still running. This was not considered unusual.

So I have to ask Chuck/Jan, This is what you should expect from a cluster. Why make a such a big deal about it????
