You need a firmware patch which needs to be placed on a dds tape, from
which you will need to perform an "UPDATE" from.

The patch is named "PF_CWBR0013" which should be available from the hp ftp
patch site.

To create the dds tape, you will need access to an HP-UX machine.

Following are the instructions for creating the tape:

Patch Name:  PF_CWBR0013

Patch Description: HP9000 Model E25/E35/E45 PDC revision 1.3.

        This patch is a PDC firmware update for the HP9000
        Models E25/E35/E45, and the HP3000 918/928/968 systems.
        The latest versions of the offline diagnostic "MAPPER"
        will not execute properly if the systems described
        above do not contain PDC revision 1.3 or greater.

Installation Instructions:

           Please review all instructions and the Hewlett-Packard
           SupportLine User Guide or your Hewlett-Packard support terms
           and conditions for precautions, scope of license,
           restrictions, and, limitation of liability and warranties,
           before installing this patch.

           PLEASE BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE PATCH.

           Prior to performing the firmware update, verify the current
           version of your firmware, using the following steps:

           NOTE:  It is important that you read and understand these
                  instructions completely before you begin.  This can
                  determine your successs in completing the PDC update.

                  Be sure to prepare the system and its users before
                  beginning a PDC update.  Since the system will not be
                  in operation during the update, you should notify
                  appropriate managers and users as to when it will be
                  shutdown and for how long it will remain inoperative.

                  The PDC update should take no longer than 30 minutes
                  to complete.

      * * * * * * *  VERIFYING CURRENT VERSION OF FIRMWARE  * * * * * * *

           Step 1.  Log on as root, and enter "reboot -r".  This command
                    will shutdown the Operating System and reboot the system.

           Step 2.  If AUTOBOOT is on, you will receive the following
                    message:

                       "Process is starting autoboot process
                       To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds."

                    PRESS ANY KEY WITHIN 10 SECONDS TO INTERRUPT
                    THE BOOTING PROCESS.

           Step 3.  The Main Menu is displayed.  A prompt will appear as
                    "MAIN MENU: Enter command or menu>".

                    Enter the command "IN".

           Step 4.  A prompt will appear as "Information Menu: Enter Command>".

                    Enter the command "PDC".

                    If the PDC information appears as "19    (0x00000013)"
                    you already have PDC revision 1.3 in your system.  A
                    PDC update is NOT required.

                    If the PDC information appears as "18    (0x00000012)"
                    you have PDC revision 1.2 in your system.  A PDC update
                    will be required.

           Step 5.  Reboot your system with your normal process.

      * * * * * * * *  CREATING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE TAPE  * * * * * * * *

           Step 1.  Verify the checksum of the file "CWBR0013.FRM" using
                    the "sum" command.  Results of the command should be
                    equal to "12814 1288 CWBR0013.FRM".

           Step 2.  Use the "dd" command to copy the file "CWBR0013.FRM"
                    to tape, as follows:

                       dd if=CWBR0013.FRM of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k
                                             ^^^^^^^^^^^
                                        (device path dependent)

                       NOTE:  Blocksize (bs) must be = 2k


      * * * * * * * * * *  FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE  * * * * * * * * * *

               NOTE:  ENSURE YOUR SYSTEM IS FULLY BACKED UP BEFORE
                      PROCEEDING WITH THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE.

           Step 1.  Log on as root, and enter "reboot -r".  This command
                    will shutdown the Operating System and reboot the system.

           Step 2.  If AUTOBOOT is on, you will receive the following
                    message:

                       "Process is starting autoboot process
                       To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds."

                    PRESS ANY KEY WITHIN 10 SECONDS TO INTERRUPT
                    THE BOOTING PROCESS.

           Step 3.  Boot from the "Alternate" boot path.  (You must boot
                    from the device that contains the firmware update tape
                    you just created.)

           Step 4.  Interact with IPL (Y or N)?>

                    Respond with "Y".

           Step 5.  At the "ISL>" prompt, enter the Online Diagnostic
                    Environment (ode) program by typing "ode".

           Step 6.  At the "ode>" prompt, enter the command, "update".

                NOTE:  FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, THIS PROCESS CANNOT
                       BE INTERRUPTED UNTIL COMPLETION.  INTERRUPTING
                       THIS PROCESS WILL CAUSE YOUR SYSTEM TO BE
                       INOPERATIVE.

           Step 7.  At the "update>" prompt, enter "run".

           Step 8.  A warning message will be issued, followed by
                    "Continue ([y]/n)?  Enter "y".

           Step 9.  After the tape has been read by the update program,
                    the "update>" prompt will return.  The update should
                    take approximately 30 seconds.  Enter "exit".

           Step 10. The system will automatically reset, and the boot
                    process will begin.  Boot your system with your
                    normal process.
