Do you know the actual cost of CNE or MSCE training? Who's going to foot the
bill for your certification? You? You know how many moron CNE's or especially
MSCE's I have seen? For practical purposes the people I know who have figured
it out on their own have been superior to the certified people.

Now if HP want's to give away the testing for the certification, then lovely,
sign me up. A lot of these are hard to gauge on a test though, how many of you
do things that you would have trouble explaining or writing down because it's a
seat of your pants situation?

So those are the possible negatives.

I *really* like this idea! It would actually help in three ways:

1) Employers would know what they were getting when they hired someone.

2) The MPE-certified individual becomes more marketable and can
(perhaps) command better salary because he's certified. I've seen this
many times over with MS & Novell certified techs.

These are the standard arguments. Now I'll throw in one you may not be
expecting.

3) It becomes another marketing tool for HP! Think about it: How much
free marketing (not to mention cold hard cash!) does Microsoft get from
every time someone asks one of its MSCE's, "How can we do thus-and-so?"
They come up with a *Microsoft* solution because they've been *trained*
to. MPE certification could do the same thing for the HP3000. Think of
the possibilities...

Patrick (who doesn't (usually) get this excited over marketing issues)
