   THE BEST OF NASA'S SPINOFFS

  Laser Angioplasty
  Cardiac Imaging System
  Advanced Pacemaker
  Implantable Heart Aid
  Body Imaging
  Computer Reader for the Blind
  Ocular Screening System
  Advanced Wheelchair
  Radiation-Blocking lenses
  Collision Avoidance System (for aircraft)
  Self-Righting life Raft
  Weather Information Processing
  Corrosion-Resistant Coating
  Air/Wastewater Purification Systems
Heat Pipes for the Alaska Pipeline
  Cordless Products
  Stratch-Resistant Sunglass Coating
  Structural Analysis (NASTRAN)
  Clean Room Apparel

Ford and Honda have used NASTRAN to design cars and trucks.

CorningWare is made from the same material that was used for the ablative
heat shields of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo command modules.

NASA has developed a system known as Propulsion Controlled Aircraft (PCA),
to deal with loss of all flight control surfaces, as happened to United
Flight 232's DC-10. Flight 232's #2 engine imploded taking out all three
hydraulic systems that moved the flight control surfaces.

The PCA system, which uses only engine thrust, has been demostrated on
a F-15 Eagle fighter and a McDonnell Douglas MD-11.
