Hi HP3000-L,

I've been approached by the keepers of Perl to test a pre-release copy of 5.8.7 on MPE, but I have absolutely zero free time for doing so. If one of you Perl fans is interested in doing this and keeping Perl current on MPE, please contact me off-list, and I will tell you where to download the 5.8.7 source code from.

The process involves using gcc to compile Perl from source, running the Perl test suite, then investigating & fixing any MPE-related bugs that crop up, then submitting your source code changes back to the official Perl source repository.

If you are interested in taking a stab at this, please reply to me at [log in to unmask] DO NOT use my bixby.org e-mail address, since I am migrating my Internet connectivity to Verizon Fios (fiber to the premises :-)) on Wednesday May 18th. I expect that bixby.org e-mail and all other public-facing services may exhibit some temporary reliability problems during May 17-19 as I try to do some proactive things and then attempt to put out the fires after Verizon leaves.

- Mark B.
