Interesting you should mention that. A client of mine has just such a system to
validate the SSN to see if it has been issued by the SSA (based on first and
second group numbers) and then attempts a match on their database. They're a
trade organization serving several industries and people tend to rotate from
one company to another in these industries, so there is a high probabilty of a
match.
I'll give you good folks on the -L what database and platform is used for this
system... and it isn't Windows.... :)
