That's odd.  QEdit 5.0 handles bytestream files here.

Perhaps the time has come to bite the bullet and learn vi :-).  It's an
excellent editor with capabilities I haven't found in any other (though I'm
looking forward to somebody--perhaps me--porting vim to the 3000).
