A "(P)"would mean "Pattern" in many contexts. It does not work for the from
or to strings in a change command. So it means nothing in the example given.
The following command would mean something though.

C "JEFF"(U) "SAM" "@FR@E#D@"(P U)

Would mean:
1. Change "JEFF" in any combination of upper and lower case (i.e.: "jeFf"
would change).
2. Change it to an all uppercase "SAM". Note: there is no way to get the to
string to shift to match the case of the from string.
3. Only do this change in lines which contain the pattern: "FR", followed by
zero or more characters, then "E", followed by a single digit, then "D". The
characters could be anyplace in the line since I began and ended the pattern
with "@". Note the "FRED" characters could be in any case since I also
included the "U" on the line string.
