Now I know octal 31 and 33 are line feed and carriage
return. Is there a list anywhere that I can
 reference?

Try the "ASCII Character Set" in the Little Brown Book,
or the "ASCII Table" in Orbit's Pocket Guide.

Octal 31 is "EM", whatever that is.
Octal 33 is the ESCAPE character.

Line feed is octal 12.
Carriage return is octal 15.

If the program is using %5440 to represent characters, it would be ", "
meaning a comma followed by a space.
