Tom,

Yes you can switch the bay your tape drive is in within the 5300. Each bay
has it's own SCSI ID (distinguishable from the back of the unit. As per
your SYSGEN entry, you now have it on SCSI ID 6 (this should match what you
see physically set on the 5300). Just make note of which bay you are
placing it into (and its SCSI ID) and change SYSGEN accordingly (followed
by a :doionow) OR set the SCSI ID of the new bay to 6 (and the old bay to
something else other than 6). Remember to down the Ldev while moving it and
up it when complete.

One thing I would add is, are you using the SAME tapes to test the new
drive as the old drive ? As stated, "STORE IS MARKING MEDIA1 BAD ON LDEV 7"
which if memory serves, does actually write to the media, so when testing a
new drive, use a new tape.

HTH,

Regards,

Reid E. Baxter

After at least 2-3 years of faithful service, my DAT3 drive failed.

I am in the middle of trying to work out with HP on fixing the problem.

It gives me the following when trying to store to the a tape:

STORE ENCOUNTERED MEDIA WRITE ERROR ON LDEV 7 (S/R 1454)
SPECIFICALLY, STORE RECEIVED ERROR -44 FROM THE IO SYSTEM (S/R 1557)
STORE IS MARKING MEDIA1 BAD ON LDEV 7
LDEV 7 REQUIRES CLEANING, PLEASE USE CLEANING CASSETTE

It happened on Friday just after I had cleaned it twice. The last time this
happened, they sent in a new drive and that worked. This time, they sent
in a new drive, and it does the same thing.

I was wondering if it was possible to switch ldev 7 to a different bay in
the
5300 enclosure, since I'm not using them anyway...or if there is a more
helpful
idea.

Here is the Ldev from sysgen:

io> ldev 7
LDEV: 7 DEVNAME: OUTDEV: 0 MODE: R
ID: HPC1537A RSIZE: 128 DEVTYPE: TAPE
PATH: 0/0/1/0.6.0 MPETYPE: 24 MPESUBTYPE: 7
CLASS: TAPE

Thanks!
