only our problems was with a DDS1 tape.  It appears that the tape mechs were
no longer being made, so the "new" devices that HP was adding was a re-firb.
Normally this is not a problem, but in this case, HP was not doing the work.
Theu had farmed out the work to another company and they were doing the work
improperly.  HP had a slew of these bad DDS1 drives, and they kept swapping
out bad drives for bad drives.  Finally, our CE had enough and got approval
to use a DDS1 drive that had not GR'd yet, but it was a completely different
mech. from a completely different manufacturer.  Bingo!  Things started
working, and they worked well.  It seems that the new mech was also faster.
This whole process lasted 2 or 3 months, so don't give up....just keep
complaining about it.  Sooner or later the CE will get sick of
seeing/hearing from you and figure out another way to solve the problem.
