Subject: Re: DDS-3 vs. DLT? Reliability?
<<DDS-1 tapes can be had for in the $5 range, with DDS-2 being a bit
more expensive, while DDS-3 tapes seem to be quite expensive and DLT tapes
seem to be $150 (or in that vicinity anyway).>>
Ouch; unless we're talking something other than USD, "that vicinity" is off
by a factor of two. Quantum DLT IV cartridges are USD 69.96 at
www.buycomp.com <http://www.buycomp.com> and USD 70.21 at
www.hardwarestreet.com <http://www.hardwarestreet.com> . DEC-labeled parts
are a little more expensive at around USD 78. So DLT is about the same price
as DDS on a per-bit basis, at USD 1-2 per gig.
