We would not have been so surprised if busy data bases were reported
as not being able to be quiesced. The data bases which did not get
backed up are in the spare parts part of the business, which is not very
active at night. The busy data bases, those accessed by the second
and third shift workers and by a site three hours to the west, were backed
up with no problem. The System Manager put on the patch that was
sent, but has not had time to try out 7x24 Turbostore again. The site is
back to the TurboStore option which requires getting everyone out for a
short time, as I said in my message. That option works just fine.
Incidentally, the "short time" on the manufacturing system at that site
is about 45 minutes. This is not a crisis.

I am anxiously waiting to hear that there are fixes for whatever the bugs
are in TurboStore 7x24. I have a client currently on MPE/iX 4.0, going to
5.5 as soon as we can get the machines long enough on a weekend.
Their current backup, with no on-line option, is to 9-track tapes.
As soon as we get each machine to 5.5, we can switch to the DAT drives
and use TurboStore online with the short "everybody off" time. That will be
a TREMENDOUS improvement! I'm working on trying to convince them that
getting most of the way to 7x24 is good enough, and there's no reason not
to wait a little while until all the bugs are fixed. All I'm looking for is
the
current status, and news about availability of whatever patches are needed.
