All HP3000-9xx systems' OS is MPE/iX and for MACS the database of choice is TurboIMAGE. Depending on the OS Version there are several tools available that allow you to have direct access to the system and the database information. To have all the tools under the support of HP the OS needs to be at least 6.0, but if the OS is at least 5.5 PowerPatch (PP) 4 the same tools are also available. All of these tools are provided with the OS and are readily available. The tools available are Samba, Apache, DNS, Java and ODBC that provide access in a networked environment. You can setup the HP3000 to be a web server, as several participants of this list have successfully done. There are also several tools that available from third party vendors that provide similar access.

Another item is that there is a MACS listserver where several successful companies are using the web and MACS and tools on the HP3000 to provide the same type of access you are requesting.

If you need additional info, feel free to ask this group. They will proudly answer.

Greetings,

I've been given the opportunity to find a way to connect an eCommerce
website to a MACS (Smith-Gardner's Mail Order and Catalog System)
running on an HP3000 (MPE/iX I believe, version unknown, database
unknown). Our websites are primarily ASPs with MS SQLServer 7.0. The
websites are your typical shopping cart type. We would like to do
realtime inventory checking. The Smith-Gardner folks have not been
forthcoming about their product. I've been thru the HP site looking
for options. It appears that MPE/iX has TCP/IP connectivity so I
suppose I could go with sockets. I'm looking for more information on
what MPE/iX offers me for connectivity. Any input is appreciated.
