It's interesting that HP doesn't appear anywhere in Gavin's list. But I
just checked three HP-supplied power cubes, and all of them put out AC.
Two of them state explicitly that they're good for 50 or 60Hz, and the
third doesn't have any frequency spec.

However, one of them is marked very clearly, "DO NOT EXPOSE TO RAIN."
Maybe this was the problem, especially since Joe was in England.
