The two are not mutually exclusive. I run both on one PC with 128MB RAM. I
have no idea how they sort out which gets how much CPU (Win98SE, no task
manager, and I'm not interested enough to use some other widget). Of course,
since many of us have more than one machine, one could choose a single such
client for a given system. BTW, I believe that the Parabon Pioneer engine is
currently only available on Windows, and soon on Linux and other UNIXen, in
spite of having been written in Java.

While I think the SETI project is fun, why don't we use our computing power
for something more constructive like Cancer Research?

It certainly has a greater possibility of affecting our lives more directly
if the research done with our computing power provides answers to cancer
research compared to analyzing the data from satellites.
