HP3000 and the World Wide Web - Mike Belshe, Hewlett Packard - CSY
Networking Lab
This presentation will cover a variety of World Wide Web (WWW) topics
aimed at helping HP3000 customers better use the WWW at their sites.
Topics will include a short description of downloading and installing
the server and creating initial home pages. The bulk of the
presentation will deal with using the WWW to extract information from
databases and other programs which may already be running on HP3000 s -
including specific examples of how C and Pascal can be used to gather
this information. Finally, the presentation will cover some of the
disadvantages of using http for accessing databases and offer some
possible alternatives.

Client/Server Access Workshop - Denys Beauchemin, Hi-Comp
Interesting in learning about accessing information from IMAGE/SQL?
Attend the IMAGE/SQL client server access workshop.

Unix Network Security - Bob Kelley - Hewlett Packard, Expert Center, Cupertino
This presentation will cover the recently released and controversial
Security Administrator s Tool for Analyzing Networks (SATAN) and it s
impact on HP-UX systems. Bob is the author of the HP Security
Bulletin #26 - Preparing Your HP-UX System for SATAN.

Introduction to the Internet - Ron Baker, Highline Community College
Learn to Navigate the Internet! This presentation will begin with
introductory comments and a videotaped overview. Internet resources
will be discussed and on-line demonstration (with handouts) of Telnet
and Gopher. Following a break, on-line demonstrations will continue
with Gopherspace tools (Veronica, bookmarks), World Wide Web (using
Lynx), Hytelnet, File Transfer (FTP) and Archie, and electronic mail.
Question and answer session.

Evolution of Technology on WAN and LAN - Stan Galkin, Andataco
Evolution of Technology on WAN and LAN, including ATM, ISDN and Etherswitches.

Creating Computer Based Training in Authorware Professional - Betsy
Bruce, Communications Technology Center
The Communications Technology Center (CTC) developed a Computer Based
Training (CBT) module using Authorware Professional. This CBT is
intended to introduce new users to the capabilities of one module of
the CTC administrative software used by Washington s Community and
Technical Colleges. This presentation will follow the design and
development of this software CBT by a novice multimedia design team,
focusing on Authorware Professional for Windows as the CBT authoring
tool. The presentation will also cover software screen capture,
modularity and interface design issues.

Introduction to Desktop Document Imaging - Richard Archer, Willamette
Digital Group
In the past electronic document imaging has only been viable for
companies with data processing staffs and large capital budgets.
Recent technology advances make desktop imaging systems a reality for
most small- to medium-sized companies. The seminar will cover the
what , why and how of the new generation of office automation
tool. The session will provide a basic understanding of what an
electronic document imaging system is and why your organization should
consider implementing such a system.

Migrating to Image/SQL - Fred White, Adager
According to HP Marketing, to provide SQL access to your database all
you need to do is :Run IMAGESQL.PUB.SYS and enter a few commands which
a) attach your database to an SQL DBEnvironment and b) authorize
specified users SQL access to your database. Unfortunately, in the
real world, life is not that simple. This paper addresses some of the
potholes and pitfalls which should be addressed prior to migration to
IMAGE/SQL. Database Administrators and Application Developers who
ignore the issues may be disappointed with the results and may be left
with long-term maintenance and support headaches.

UNIX Security - Chris Rice, Communications Technology Center
Why should I secure? What should I secure? How do I secure? This
presentation will discuss physical security, trusted systems,
passwords, file system security, log files, common ways of breaking
into a system, COPS and CRACK, policies and procedures, and what to
do if your security is breached.

Ensuring Data Integrity Using Suprtool - Paul Gobes, Robelle Consulting Ltd.
Each production database needs a program which ensures that local
rules are being kept. Unfortunately, these programs seldom get
written. After this tutorial, students will be able to use Suprtool,
Robelle s high-performance data tool on the HP3000, for various types
of integrity checks.

Programming the HP3000 Command Interpreter - Ken Robertson, Robelle
Consulting Ltd.
Many tasks can be performed without the need to write a 3GL program:
all that is required is some basic knowledge of how to program the
Command Interpreter (CI). The built-in language of the CI is not
mysterious and can be deciphered with a bit of help. In addition to
the basics of CI programming, this session will show how to simulate
arrays, store variables across sessions, and manipulate files. It will
also explore the value of combining CI command files with third-party
tools such as Qedit and Suprtool from Robelle, and MPEX from VESOFT.

Building client/server, hypertext multimedia applications on the HP3000
or 9000, practically for free - Kirk Olson, Cerius Technology Group, Inc.
You can build powerful client/server applications on your HP systems,
at almost no cost. Public domain and low cost software from the
Internet has enabled hypertext/multimedia applications such as: Help
Desk, Collaborative systems, knowledge base, bulletins, personnel
systems, resume tracking, organization newsletters, policy manuals,
expense reporting, video briefings, executive information systems,
pricing updates and thousands of other internal and external
applications or any application that deals with text and small
transactions. These applications can be built with all existing
equipment including terminals, PCs, Macintosh, HP3000 and HP9000. This
presentation will explore the applications that can be or have been
written, show examples of successful implementations and show you how
you can do this.

Qedit s Forgotten Commands - Hans Hendriks, Robelle Consulting Ltd.
The Qedit full-screen editor for MPE and HP-UX has been in constant
development for many years. There was even a time when Qedit didn t
have full-screen mode! Therefore, it isn t surprising that many useful
features have been forgotten or overlooked. This tutorial will take
Qedit users on an archaeological dig, to find the answer to pressing
questions: How many ways are there to close a file in Qedit? What to
do when your Quick Reference Guide has walked away? How do you center
a line? What does Qedit do if I type ",,"? How can I insert the same
block of text many times into a file? What is the easiest way to get
back the previous screen display? Can Qedit delete all the blank lines
in a file?

Suprlink: Combining Data Files Without Keys - Paul Gobes, Robelle
Consulting Ltd.
In this tutorial, Suprtool users will learn how to combine data from
several different files or TurboIMAGE datasets without using keys, or
even needing them in the database. Suprtool is Robelle s
high-performance tool for extracting and manipulating data on the
HP3000 systems. The component of Suprtool which combines data is
"Suprlink". Attendees will learn how to use Suprlink to attach
customer addresses to invoice details, and to link from product numbers
through invoice numbers to customers who have ordered the product.
Participants will learn when to best apply Suprlink for optimum performance.

Speeding Up QUIZ with Suprtool - Hans Hendriks, Robelle Consulting Ltd.
QUIZ is great for writing and formatting complex reports. Suprtool is
unbeatable for selecting records from datasets and files, with fast
serial reads. This paper shows how these tools can be combined to
knock hours off those long batch jobs. Students will learn techniques
for creating PowerHouse subfiles, populating them with qualified
records using Suprtool, and using the resulting data in QUIZ reports.
Advanced topics to be covered include how to populate a subfile with
data from several datasets, differences between QUIZ and QTP subfiles,
and when it is faster to let Quiz do the entire job.

Information Warehousing Project Strategies - Tim Feetham, Information Builders
This presentation will provide a brief evolution and review of the
fundamentals of data warehousing, different warehouse architectures,
project problem areas, and techniques for addressing those issues.
