X-no-Archive:yes
An email admin of my acquaintance has told me that he gets several a day,
many to very old or even non-existent (apparently generated) addresses, and
suspects deliberate action, rather than just the effects of a virus that
sends itself to everyone in an Outlook user's address book. He has done what
he can to trace several of them, and many of them are coming thru open
relays, with the originator adequately hidden. Again, this is my
understanding of the email admin's analysis, very much second hand and
subject to misinterpretation. But I must wonder if this is a novel new
wrinkle, someone shot-gunning a known virus out to recipients thru relays,
on the chance that recipients have inadequate AV scanning and don't know
better than to execute attachments.
Which reminds me, I'm also really bummed that QuickView got bought by JASC,
and is not part of Windows 2000. I may wind up buying a copy, to have a
good, integrated, general purpose file browser for safely reading
attachments of various flavors.
