I would be surprised if you could get one from HP. They change the models
sometimes in a product cycle measured in weeks, and each recovery CD is (I
believe) based on the exact configuration of your Pavilion as delivered.
You'd probably be better off using the Win 95 or 98 CD as delivered "for new
PCs only" -

I am in a somewhat similar dilemma - I bought a used AST and the PO did a
rather poor job of upgrading to Win98. In any event, there are mission files
critical to the OS.

So the PO gave me a recovery CD - and I won't know if I need that all
important serial number until getting into it. Wonder how many people have
the CD but lost the paper with the serial number ;-)

I did use the recovery CD on a Pavilion 7410P I have at home - and as I
recall no serial number was prompted. But then I had to delete all the funky
"free offers" from AOL, etc ;-)

As Tom says it wouldn't hurt to ask though...If you return the damaged CD
and they have a replacement it should be a painless process...

Bill

Also, you should be able to get new recovery CD's right from HP if the
ones you have are bad. I have situations on some PC's where a recovery CD
didn't come with the computer for some reason and I was able to contact
the company much later (Compaq in this case) and they sent me the recovery
CD later at no charge. Wouldn't hurt to check with HP on it.
