I have two ideas that might suit you.

Samba solution
I think this should be posible. But let's hear it from the experts.
On the NT Server you could use say Excel to reference a HP3000 file using a
Samba drive map.
I set this up for Excel once and it worked OK. It should of worked for
Winword but Winword (97)has a bug in that area.
Samba is a bit annoying to set up but once it's up, it's up.

CSV + FTP + Excel solution.
Or you could create an ascii file on the 3000 in CSV format. Update it and
transfer it regurlarly via FTP to the NT machine.
On the NT server, or preferably using a station connected to it, you could
use Excel to read the CSV file as an external data source. Then write a
little macro so that Excel re-reads the data at regurlar intervals.

I use HP3000 Csv files that I update with jobs every night. The job then
runs a FTP transfer to an NT server. My users use Excel Pivot tables to
access the data from their stations and turn it around any way they like.

You can even specify in Excel to close the Excel file without saving the
data so that Excel re-reads the external source file every time you re-open
the Excel file.
