Unfortunately, you can't remove volumes from a volume set. The only (safe,
supported) way to accomplish this is:
1. Store the contents of the volume set.
2. VSCLOSE the volume set.
3. In VOLUTIL do a SCRATCHVOL on each volume in the set.
4. Use the NEWSET and NEWVOL commands in VOLUTIL to rebuild the set,
omitting the volumes you wanted to free up.
5. Restore the files.
Pretty ugly when you're looking for a "non-disruptive" solution. The
"device" free space is the actual free space on the volume, but only the
space listed as "Permanent" is accessible to you. The rest can only be used
by the OS as transient space. You can make it all available (not advisable
on LDEV 1) by increasing the permanent percentage to 100, using ALTERVOL.
By the way, only the system volume set can house transient space, so there
is no reason to use less than 100% permanent elsewhere, unless you are
saving space for a rainy day.

I would like to erase all data from ldevs 3 and 4 (see 'discfree c' and
'dstat all' output below), remove them from the TEST_VOLUME_SET, and add one
to the MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET and the other to the APPL_VOLUME_SET.
Since there is no such thing as a dumb question, here goes...
How would I go about this?
Can it be done without disrupting the system?
What is my actual free space on the MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET?
-Is it (1927056 + 1865920) or (2626016 + 1865920)?
