My experience with MPE releases is that they really work well compared to
all other operating systems and other vendors (based on 10 years of HP, Dec,
ATT, Microsoft, Novell, etc. based systems).

The problem that brought this up sounds like a classic case of double
trouble, as in testing the test process, or patching patches. Sometimes
you just can't win. What happens if Autopat or Autoinst has a bug? In
general, I think the instructions have been the weakest link in the install
and patch arena, but they have improved a great deal, too.

Problems may (and have) caused HP to include "special instructions" of various
sorts with the patch or O.S. release, but the good news is that these
instructions are there, in the same box, instead of coming a couple of weeks
later (after you installed the new versions/patch/whatever). This is a sign of
a reliable process, not evidence of a problem.

As always, read the instructions before proceeding and if you are not sure,
call the RC for help and be sure the person taking the call understands
carefully your questions, then be sure you understand the answers.
