Well, it was written in Pascal/V, not SPL.    (Probably used Pascal I/O too!)
 
For another, I just noticed the following ASCII text in VISICALC.PUB.SYS
on a friend's Classic HP3000 (Deluxe VisiCalc    HP32133  (B.01.03)):
