This is an extension I came up with to what was titled
"IPROF topic: HP3000/7xx".

And then a lot of other people joined in with ~same
opinion. This is clearly a good topic for the Management
Roundtable at IPROF-96.

All the traffic on this subject reminded me of something
I was thinking of proposing for two of the roundtables (RT)
at IPROF-96 (Management RT and MPE/Database RT):

I.e.: That anyone on 3000-L who wants to do so could
pre-submit questions for these two RTs by posting to the
list with a "reserved" subject name. That way everyone
could see what others were asking, which would help to
avoid duplicates while allowing "refinement" by others.

This idea is perhaps something I should have reviewed
with others first...... But the clock is running; government
by committee doesn't seem like it's necessary in this
case; someone just needs to make a decision. So as
volunteer co-chair again this year I'm going to do it:

I have set up two email folders on my system, one for the
Management RT and one for the MPE/Database RT. If
anyone wants to pre-submit a question for the IPROF-96
Management RT, post a message to hp3000-L with the
following subject (please use *exactly* this subject):

IPROF-MGMT-RT-?

*Then*, as the first part of the text in the message put:

IDENTIFIER:
SUBMITTED BY:
E-MAIL ADDRESS:
PHONE:
US MAIL:
<< then go on with additional details, as desired. >>

"IDENTIFIER" above is intended to be a very short key
phrase identifying the question or comment. For example:
"Need HP3000/7xx". I guess "PHONE" and "US MAIL"
address can be optional, if you don't want to give those.

For the MPE/Database RT, do same with this subject:

IPROF-MPE/DB-RT-?

For every message I see coming across with these
subjects, I will file in the appropriate folder and see that
the contents are provided to whoever ends up being the
moderator for these two RTs. Even if we don't get to your
question during the alloted time at IPROF, we can pass
on all the questions to HP or Interex. Note that although
not confirmed yet, I have asked that Interex provide a
representative for the Management RT. Please try and
be brief, concise, and to the point in your questions /
comments.

Plus figure will try and forward all the questions to HP or
Interex about one week before IPROF, say, by 13 March
(after which I will be on travel prior to IPROF). This gives
y'all three weeks to come up with and post RT questions.
And it may give panel members a chance to think about a
response before they get there; i.e.: Maybe we can cut
down on the number of answers that sound something
like: "Gee, that's a good question. We'll look into it and
get back to you."....... ;-)

Hmmmm......... I wonder if a "dup" counter is necessary
or desirable.... I guess if a question / comment is posted
that someone else wants to register a "me too" on, post
a message to the appropriate RT email subject, give the
IDENTIFIER, provide the SUBMITTED BY, EMAIL, and
PHONE info, and then just say......... let's say: "CONCUR".
Plus you can always "expand" on the original if you want.

And now, before Isaac or another multi-platform person
jumps all over me: I will be happy to take UX questions
for the management roundtable, as long as they are
posted here on 3000-L. With respect to a UNIX RT to
correspond to the MPE/Database RT, I believe that
SIGUNIX is still planning to conduct a UNIX RT under
the auspices of that SIG.  Denny Allain is SIGUNIX Chair;
by copy of this message I'll leave it to him (and maybe
Isaac, if he wants to jump in) if he (they) want to set up a
similar mechanism for pre-submitting HP-UX and/or
UNIX Management RT questions from the UNIX side.

Note that even though the "Need 3000/7xx" question has
clearly made the cut, I'd like not to get into the editing
business on this. Stan, I think you were the first one to
"re-raise" this question in the current go-round.
Could I ask you to formally submit per the above ??
Same with all the people who said "me too", if they want
to officially go on the record as saything that.

This seems like it should work pretty well, and will give
the members of 3000-L who cannot make it to IPROF an
opportunity to put in their $0.02 at the RTs. As for users
who do not subscribe to 3000-L or a UNIX disussion group
yet, well, what can I say: IPROF is targeted primarily at
the experienced, technically oriented user. If they're not
on the net yet, they ought to be. AOL or etc. is cheap
enough that cost really shouldn't be a big problem.
Anyway, there will of course also be an opportunity to
submit RT questions on site.

If anyone can think of something I overlooked in the
above, let me know.......

thanks,
and please:
**** Remember to post RT ? to the appropriate "reserved"
subject on 3000-L, NOT to my direct email address ****
