The HP 3000 community is invited to participate in a chat session with Joe
Grimm, Software Engineer at MiniSoft, Inc. The session is a follow-on to
Joe's presentation at HP World '99 entitled "Java, JDBC and TurboIMAGE." If
you missed the presentation or have additional follow-on questions join the
chat Thurs. Sept. 2, from 11:00AM - 12:00PM PDT (2:00PM-3:00PM EDT). The
chat session URL is http://www.interex.org/tech/3000/chat.html .

Abstract:
The Java programming language can offer a way for applications to be deployed
on virtually any type of computer. One main obstacle to this is that most of
the data an application will generate and use is stored in a DBMS that must
be deployed on a specific type of hardware and operating system. JDBC can be
used to eliminate this obstacle by providing a DBMS-independent interface to
the data.

Joe's presentation at HP World '99 explained the components of JDBC and
showed how a Java application is developed using a visual Java IDE and a JDBC
driver for MPE/iX's TurboIMAGE database system. Application deployment using
the 1-tier, 2-tier, and 3-tier models were also presented, along with a
discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Joe will be available online to answer your questions relating to JDBC and
java application development for the HP 3000 platform.
