What do you mean you "can't convert euros to dollars"? Sure, it may change day by day (or even hour by hour), but "at the time" when the photo was taken (May 12th, 2008) the exchange rate was $1.55+/euro [though you'd have to go back a couple more days to the day we took money out at an ATM, so it may have been higher or lower, but then bank fees get in the equation...] In any case, as I write this the rate is $1.5778/euro, which is pretty close.

So, at *today's* rate, 27 euro =$42.60, though it may be easier to convert the per-liter price [1.434 EU = $2.2624] then multiply by 4 [technically, a liter is 33.81 ounces, so you end up with a little more than 7 ounces over] to come *close* to $9/gallon...

so about 27 euro for about 5 gallons, now you can't convert the euro
to a dollar because the euro has the same value internally, so if you
compare it to a price per gallon as though it was dollars that's
$5.40 per gallon, which isn't that much more than what we are
spending and they are paying twice as much tax at least, which puts
it at nearly what we are paying, actually I'm seeing diesal at $5 a
gallon around here.

2 main problems with fuel costs. Eco nuts stopping any refinery
building or drilling for 30 years, and the futures market. The
weakness of the dollar doesn't help. The dollar has made a slight
comeback of late so you can't really blame it that much, it's been
around the same rate for months, during the same time that oil has
doubled. Get rid of the futures market and speculators.
