Have you tried stopping and starting the jinetd job? Most of our
"unexplainable" ftp problems are cleared up by doing this.

Subject: ftp problem

hi all!

i'm trying to ftp to one of my systems. the ftpmon job is
running (5.5pp7). when i try to connect, i get the
following from the client:

530 User log on unsuccessful

in ftplog.arpa on the target system, i see:

FTP/XL Tue, Apr 4, 2000, 3:47 PM, pin=#79 :
FTPMON,FTP.SYS,ARPA
ARPA FTP Server session is dying because of a NetIPC error:
RECEIVED A GRACEFUL
RELEASE OF THE CONNECTION. (SOCKERR 68)

(and it's always the same error...) i can make an out-bound
ftp connection. it's not a password-typing issue as no
passwords are involved. if i try to do a 'ftp loopback'
(that is, ftp'ing to myself) that fails too. the network
seems stable (no network error messages are appearing on the
console). i can telnet to the box (inetd is running).
services.net looks fine too. <sigh>

any ideas? - d
