Billy,

A couple people on the list recently bought a Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U, both are very happy with the decision.

It is a plasma, for places where there is more light, look for an LCD.

I have heard people trying to save money by getting 720P as opposed to 1080i (1080p is blueray format).  

I think you will find that most TV stations broadcast in 1080i, so you may want a set that is capable of that. 

There is argument that you need to give Monster cable hundreds of dollars for HDMI cables, however they advertise rates that are higher than used.

It is a digital signal, and there is no loss in video quality... my hdmi cable cost $15.. you can find them for less on the internet.
