You may need to do a VOLUTIL scratchvol 3 prior to the NEWSET.
(If the NEWSET command works without the prior SCRATCHVOL, you’re okay).
After the VOLUTIL commands - and prior to the restore command to restore what was on the damaged volset, you want to restore your directory, as in:
:file t;dev=?
:restore *t;;directory
Then, unless you’ve isolated complete accounts in the target volset, you could, from a recent backup, issue:
:file t;dev=?
:restore *t;/;KEEP;olddate;partdb;create
The ;KEEP option here is critical.
If you know exactly which groups/accounts are on the volumeset, you could explicitly specify them on the restore command (or use a indirect file containing them) - but also use the KEEP option to be safe.
Good luck.
