I did something similar and it works great. I ran a cable from a port on
a Datability VCP-300 terminal server and configured it as a reverse telnet
service. Now I can (with appropriate passwords) telnet into the console
port from anywhere I have an Internet connection handy.
It also works with the aux port on a Cisco router configured for reverse
telnet.
Mostly, though, it's just great to be able to reboot the system from our
dial-in PPP server.
