John,
Just one small point according to the following excerpt the Virginia Beach
in the article is in Virginia, not Florida. Not to worry, for all I know
Reading is in Pennsylvania.
07/29/02; Vol. 12 No. 21
State Lines
By GCN staff reports
Beach blanket bingo. The Virginia Beach, Va., police this month tested
FaceIt facial recognition software from Identix Inc. of Minneapolis. Three
surveillance cameras located on Atlantic Avenue sent video images of
beachgoers' faces over fiber-optic cable to a control room for comparison
against a database of 2,500 digital images of suspected criminals and
runaways, deputy police chief Greg Mullen said. If there's no match, the
video images are discarded. If there is a possible match, the system alerts
police monitors.
Take care
frank
