Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt.  At my company we did some
testing of code like this and found that a relativly significant
amount of time and resources are used when doing a "RUN COMMAND" in
Quick.  You are basicly creating another instance of CI, right?  Could
it be that the one second delay is not as much a problem as the
overhead of "RUN COMMAND?"
 
What we did was put the pause into the XL using a little C pgm and
used a "DO EXTERNAL" to pause.  The overhead is GREATLY reduced.  And
they lived happily ever after...
