Hello Friends:

It was with great disappointment that we read Alfredo Rego's update on the
HP 3000's TV appearance:

"I just came back from Fred White's home, where we watched (via Fred's nice
satellite setup) this morning's first broadcast of The Executive Forum. I
could not believe it when I realized that they left out all the good stuff
from Adager's segment :-("

We were sorry to see that his nationwide TV interview touting the HP 3000
was edited to exclude Alfredo's discussion of HP 3000s and IMAGE. It's
especially sad since this appears to be Alfredo's sole reason for flying to
New York to appear on "The Executive Forum." This error in editing
judgement comes from a media that's often too rushed to focus on the
essence of communication. Unfortunately, this is surely not the first time
that TV editors have sliced something so thin it has become content-free.

This is also not the first time Alfredo has flown to New York to defend and
promote HP's products and the marvels of IMAGE. In the bitter-cold winter
of 1994 I saw him appear at an HP "Database Shootout," hosted by the
Greater New York Regional User Group. The RUG had invited representatives
from Oracle, Sybase and Informix to speak to HP customers about the wonders
of their databases. Alfredo saw announcements of the shootout, and noticed
that HP's own IMAGE was not represented. He got himself invited - and then
rather than use his time to promote Adager, spent his segment touting
IMAGE, and asking hard questions of the other database suppliers about
costs of non-IMAGE solutions.

The good news is that the conversation with Jim Lovell about the HP 3000
and IMAGE really took place, and Alfredo's efforts to get the un-cut
material out of the cutting room will give the 3000 some objective video
coverage.
