The dump files can't span multiple volumes but can span multiple disks. Our
dump volume consists of, depending on the system, 3 to 4 drives. We
configure two dump files on each volume so I know they are spaning the
drives. We've been using this setup for about 3 years now and have not had
any problems with our dumps.

Have you actually tried dumping the system to dumpfiles that span multiple
volumes? I know you can create the dump files such that they span. But I
didn't think that the dump process actually worked correctly when spanning
multiple drives. So far I've never found anybody that has actually tried
and done this....
