After I posted my "glowing embers" message on this
subject earlier today, I got a call back from HP that
made the situation look a bit better. So in fairness to HP:

HP License Admin now says that they will take a
proactive approach on the diagnostics password that
will expire on 31 Jan. They don't have a new password
for 1 Feb yet, but my understanding is they expect to
have one in time to get it out to all the sites who have
previously requested a diagnostics password; and
they will try and do so automatically, without current
holders of the password having to put in another request
(although no guarantee they will catch everybody).

Biggest surprise: HP says that to date less than 50
sites have applied for the diagnostics password.......
I would have guessed at least hundreds, and would
not have been surprised if it had been 1000 sites......
Guess not nearly as many people are into looking at
system hardware details themselves as I thought.....

Glowing embers cooling off a bit...........
