I started working on MPE/iX system around 1992, and had at that time some
experience with perl on unix and msdos (yeach) platforms.
Around 1994 I did the first port of perl (think it was 4.0.36, still have
it lying around somewhere) to the 3000, and have been using it since.
Have done the other ports as well of course, 5.000, 5.001, etc. till
5.004 and they always worked like a charm. I have recently downloaded the
"official" port by Mark Bixby (thanks Mark!!), and slowly phasing into
this one.

I have over the years written several major components entirely in
perl, like client/server stuff using tcp/ip sockets, report generators,
glue programs interfacing with ISQL, the assorted collection of system
management and data massaging utilities, etc, etc. Most of these are in
daily use, and essential at that, on production systems of clients.

The fun part comes when porting to another platform. So far (have done
several to linux) they just work as expected, without changing a single
byte of code. Exceptions are of course the programs that use some MPE specific
stuff.

Perl rocks!

Hope this helps.
Danny
