Harrummph!  We're not 'weird', just more highly developed.  It is,
after all, the oldest geographic area of the North American continent.
Not like that upstart Pacific coast that's about to break off and fall
into the ocean.  (Sort of like what happened ca. 1820 in south eastern
Mo., I guess.)
