To talk about upgradability somewhat misses the point. At $399, the more
important word is disposibility. After you've used them for a year or so, you
give them to the kids and buy whatever's available then.
And as to peripherals, the $399 e-machine comes with an ATI Rage II card, a
Crystal 3D sound card, a 24X CD-ROM, a game port, a USB port, and a 56K modem,
all included for that price. What more would you need except perhaps a NIC,
memory and an even larger disc drive? A NIC (and possibly a zip drive) is all
that I'm planning on adding.
