Hi Todd.
I don't know how many/how often you need to do this, not that it
really matters anyway.
We started printing logos/forms on the HP using laser printers
about 4 years ago.
I didn't have the money to buy a package so, with lots of help from
Jim Wowchuk, I found a way to accomplish this.

- use Wordperfect/Word to create a PCL file with the logo
- use a HEX editor and strip of the first number of characters that
you don't need and replace them with a Macro ID of your own.
You'll have to read the PCL manual very carefully and do some trial
and error till you get it working right.
- print the edited file to your laser using the DOS COPY command
iwth the /b binary option (this should load the macro into memory)
You can setup a .bat file to streamline this for your users.
- call your macro from the HP program, this should allow the logo
and your HP contents to be printed on the same page.

We do our purchase orders, Curriculum Program Design Forms
and lots of Registrar's office mailings on our HP3000 this way.

There is another method available to load the macros into the laser.
Its more complicated and requires a binary print program.
You can transfer the file up to the HP and then print it to the laser
in order to load the macro into memory. This allows you to refresh
the macros from an HP application, however this is only valid for
spooled printers, not slave lasers.
Hope this helps.
Ed

Subject: Logo's on Forms
To: [log in to unmask]

I have run into a situation where I don't know the best answer to the
following question:

In order to put graphics (say logo's) on form letters with data coming from
an HP3000, would it be more flexible/cost effective to:

a) Download the data from the HP3000 to a PC and mailmerge using PC Software
of choice

b) Write ODBC programs to extract the data from the HP3000 and handle the
problem on the PC side

c) Find an (to me Unknown) way of getting the logo's on the HP3000 and have
the HP3000 (effectively) handle the mail merge itself.

I know I would much rather see the HP3000 handle all the processing itself
since the data resides there also. I don't know what packages (if any are
needed) to get (c) above done.

Any advice from someone who has been there?
