Incidentally, I hold the shop record for manually threading a 2400ft
reel on the 7978A - MUCH faster than the "Frisbee" drive on the
959/400KS (No HP-IB) :)

I always preferred the original 7970 drives.  I could whip that tape
through and get it mounted.

And I could speed up the rewind some by manipulating the tape tension
wheels.  But if you pushed it too far, oops the tape popped offline and
stop and you lost any time gained.
