Good Morning to all,

Real quick Image question, or two. I tried to 'Search the HP3000-L
archives', but it times-out. I wonder if more than one opinion exists on
the list, I'm sure. Besides I haven't seen any posts from Fred White
since dangnearaweek.

Sort Items:
In the name of saving disc space, and maybe performance, I have the
following scenario.
Designing a NEW dataset, and have the SORTITEM as the second item in
the data set, and it is defined as a X40 item, with a concatenated value
of (date+school+....), you get the idea. The data items following it are
simple items, in the same order ( date, school, and so on). The
Application will be adding records everyday, but never updating them. I
read somewhere, years ago, that DBPUT will sort based on the sort item,
plus the remainder of the record that follows the sort item. So, if that
is true, and my data is never updated or deleted, then I should be able
to change my sort item to a X2, with a VALUE of 'XX', and it would still
be sorted correctly, right?
Primary Paths:

What is the 'Rule of Thumb' for the 'Primary Path', should it be the
longest path, the shortest path, the most accessed path, or what?

I understand that Adager will make use of the Primary Path in some of
it's routines, but how is it used in the internals of Image?
