Hello Friends:

Michael Anderson asks:

>I thought Image/SQL wasn't an option, it always ships with M.P.E. Why
>would anyone buy into M.P.E. and not include the core of it's application
>integrity?

Why indeed. So few people selected this configuration of the HP 3000
that HP no longer offers it. As of Feb. 1, licenses for MPE/iX on the
newest A-Class and N-Class systems include IMAGE/SQL. And because HP
doesn't sell MPE/iX separate from hardware, the days of buying a 3000
without this core integrity are over. If you don't have a no-IMAGE
MPE license by now, you can't get one.

Ten years ago HP unbundled IMAGE from the 3000, in a sense, by
offering the no-IMAGE options. Now they've returned to the past by
dropping user license counts (added in 1992 with the 9x7 Series) and
reuniting IMAGE with the 3000. It was HP's bundling of IMAGE with the
3000 in 1976 that opened the doors of success for this server.
Perhaps going back to the future signals better prospects for the
3000.
