Wow, when the lights go out in California, the subjects that come up!

Like someone else said, it is difficult in the printed word to convey
humor, sarcasm, vs dead serious, but I've been following this discussion
and have wanted to jump in with my two-cents worth!

My first reaction on reading some of these messages is; where in the heck
did some of you go to school? I sure don't have any bad feelings about
the public education that I received. My parents took me to church, where
I received my relgious education, and the public school was where I
received my education on the business world. And no one tried to take away
any of the religious education. Maybe things are different here in
Minnesota, and where I went was a small town, small school. Teachers knew
you and are a part of the community. And the school board is made up of
people who are our neighbors, if not our friends. A school board is
probably the most local control of anything.

And as far as home-schooling - can't imagine missing out on my time in
school. And, while I don't consider my parents stupid; my Dad's 8th grade
education that he received in the 1920's would have no way been enough to
educate me in the 60's and 70's when I went to school. Not that they would
have had time, with both of them working.

But I do realize that various people can see the same thing and yet not
really see the same thing. I had a discussion recently with a fellow
graduate of OHS, and he felt that the downfall of America was when the
Supreme Court ruled that prayer wasn't allowed in school.

Now I happen to believe this is not a true statement, so I asked him,
"you mean you never prayed in school"? And he replied "Nope, never did,
wasn't allowed".

I told him, I prayed everyday... multiple times... (now this wasn't for
World Peace or anything like that). But he said, no he did not, because it
was not allowed.

I tried to explain, that prayer was NOT outlawed; what WAS outlawed, was
FORCING people to pray. But he didn't get it. He said he couldn't pray in
school. I went to the same school - two years behind him - and I prayed
everyday.

Send your kids to Minnesota. We'll give them a good education.
We'll even teach them that only READING begins with an "R" !!
