Jim is right.  The 948 and 958 are Second Generation PA-RISC processors.
These machines are in the same family as the 920, 922 and 932.  The 918,
928, 968, 978, and 988 are all fourth generation PA-RISC Processors.  Newer
technology.

I've seen several postings on this subject that refer to the 948 generically
as a 9X8 box.  I don't think that the 948 is part of the 9X8 series.  Two
years ago we upgraded from a 948 to a 918.  Trust me, they are not the same.
