Hi Matthew :)
Um... has the machine been bounced? Did the "ownership" persist/reoccur
? I seem to remember a similar problem ... where I did replace the
drive... but memory fades :)

A client has the above possibly reporting errors. For anyone that's
worked with these things more recently than I...

The sysmgr left several months ago, assigning admin level access to
another user and tape drive ownership permissions. Backups have run
fine until last week when the OS reports the device is allocated by
another user, refuses to deallocate and mount for another user.

Meanwhile, the tape drive no longer performs AVOL (an MPE-world term)
but loads the tape and sits there.

Is this indicative of a bad DDS3 drive? It's about 2 years old, in use
Mon-Fri and not in an isolated computer room (in a hallway that
everyone walks through - yep, bad environment).

The label on the bottom shows model# DSTLZ10DB but nothing of the sort
comes up on HP partsurfer.

Will an HPC1553A work in this instance until the drive can be replaced?

Thank for any assistance!
