Hi Robert,

I've seen (and answered some of) your questions on Compuserve.  I've
just started following this news group.  On to your question...

You can connect the printer using the serial interface.  You can
configure a logical device with one of the preset configurations (I
forget which one off hand, but I think it is PR22D96 or PR18D96 (which
ever one does not send status messages since the LaserJet cannot do it).

You'll need to build a cable with the DTC connecter on one end and a
25-pin serial connector on the other.  There are only three pins used:
2, 3, and 7 so building the cable should be easy.  HP Direct probably
sells a cable which might cost a bit more than usual, but it will
eliminate the time needed to build your own.
