Following up ...
Looks like it may have been pjl_supported = true was causing the problem. I
have set this to false, in both the global area and the ldev area (belt &
braces!). Spooler now is printing one copy only of each spool file. However
I get a spooler warning when printing the first file that 'page level
revovery is not supported on this printer, blah, blah ...'. I can live with
that.
