Message files are used to send data from one program to another at real
time. They can be built by adding the ";MSG" at the end of BUILD command.

As to the question of editing a message file, you have to be very careful.
In most cases, when you read a message file, the data is destroyed as you
read the file. If you really need to edit the contents of a message file,
build a temp file and fcopy the records from the message file to the temp
file. Edit the temp file and fcopy the temp file records back to the
message file.

Now to put records into a message file, from a flat file. Build the message
file to match the file specs of the flat file. Then fcopy from flat file
records to the message file. Remember to setup a file equation for that you
are appending to the message file.

Good luck!!!
