How about TV shows: Astro Boy, Clutch Cargo? I used to watch "The Highway
Patrol" right after Lassie. Flash Gordon was a re-run in those days, but
Sky King wasn't. You people from the greater Los Angeles area, remember the
Billy Barty Goodtime Hour? I was actually a guest on that show in the
mid-'60s. And how about Chuck-O the Birthday Clown?

I never saw Howdy Doody.  We did get Fireball XL-5,

It was a science fiction version.  It got me started in reading Robert A.
Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven...
