How should these memory modules be installed on a 997?

4 X 768Mb SIMMS

7 X 1GB SIMMS with memory carrier

The way it is now is

4 - 768 Mb memory
5
6 - 768 Mb memory
7
8 - 8 Gb memory carrier - 7Gb of memory installed
9 - 768 Mb memory
10  768 Mb memory


Does this make any sense?  How is interleaving supposed to work?
